Double Diamond Ruler Designs…

by | Jan 10, 2012

I’m experimenting again with the Double Diamond Ruler … It’s been interesting!  I decided to create a tote bag first and chose a brown brushed fabric with contrasting Cherrywood fabrics in cream and green for the Double Diamond design on a tote bag.

After finishing the tote bag, I pulled out some beautiful blue and lavendar batiks I’ve been saving from my trip to Paducah KY a few years back. This will make up into a vest which will button on the sides and shoulders. Each piece of the vest (right, left and back) will be individually faced and bound.

The first step in creating the Double Diamond design is to fuse a 3 1/2″ x 8″ rectangle of lightweight fusible web onto the back of the Main fabric. Then center and fuse one of the contrast fabrics onto that…Fold in half lengthwise, use the ruler to cut the appropriate slits on the fold… unfold and temporarily glue the “diamonds” back onto the Main fabric, securing the background fabric underneath with a simple design stitch…

The tote bag is now finished. When the vest is complete, I will post that also!
