Does your family celebrate Christmas with wonderful traditions that have been passed down through generations? One tradition that many families enjoy is that of filling each family member’s stocking with treasures. Maybe on Christmas morning when you peek inside your Stocking you will find a Christmas ornament, or a pair of socks, or a tooth brush & tooth paste, …. or, Oh, NO! Not a piece of COALl! Do you remember as a child you tried so hard to be good when the holidays came around because you feared that awful piece of coal in your stocking? As our children get older, it seems the most popular small gift items to stuff down into their Christmas stockings are GIFT CARDS from their favorite stores! That is sure to bring a smile to their face. They usually can hardly wait to spend those Gift Cards!
Hanging between the Christmas Stockings in this photo is a wall quilt that I recently finished. (These stockings are empty, by the way! Maybe my husband will fill them with goodies for Christmas? hmmm… I doubt it! 🙂 This year I created a variation of my Solomon’s Blue Ice pattern and made a Solomon’s Christmas Wall Hanging for my front entrance. The picture is not the best quality, but if you could see it well, you’d find the fabrics are all Christmas prints. Doesn’t it appear as if the inside squares of the Solomon;s Puzzle are “floating” on the quilt? Kind of a neat effect!
Since the wall hanging was smaller than the normal hangings I display in my front entrance, the rail extended beyond each edge of the quilt. Hmmm…I wasn’t sure what to do about that until I noticed my Christmas stockings hanging where they normally hang…by the Fireplace! They actually looked great with this wall hanging. So, I simply removed them from the fireplace and hung a stocking on each end of the quilt on the rail! I like the result. Something different than the “norm!”
Although our family has different traditions and fun things we enjoy during the Christmas season, the most important thing that we do is “Remember” what Christmas is truly all about; and “Worship” the “Reason” that we celebrate this time of year! We remember the love that God bestowed upon the World when He gave His only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ (John 3:16)… and we worship the One who gave us the precious Gift of Salvation! (Romans 6:23b) Jesus IS the Reason for this and every Season!
The Christmas Story is one to share with your family every year… Here is just a portion of that beautiful story from Luke Chapter 2….
” And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
May you and your family have a blessed Christmas this year!
