Often during the long winter months, we might become a little ‘blue’ or melancholy, so having some indoor activities and hobbies to boost our spirit is a wonderful thing! What kinds of things help boost your mood and give you energy to create or accomplish tasks in your life? Some of us are writers, or artists, or cooks, or bakers, or maybe you love to design and create quilts as much as I do!
Quilting is an essential form of expression for me in my everyday life. I not only write patterns and books on quilting and other subjects, but I find that sewing or quilting ‘something’ each and every day really does boost my mood and my energy level!
Julia Weaver, Marketing Outreach Coordinator, for Redfin reached out to me recently about a Blog article they were writing entitled; “Mind Boosting Activities at Home to Fend off Winter Blues: Indoor Hobbies & Practices. She asked me to share how to decorate and add personality with handmade quilted accessories. This was certainly something I was excited to be able to share with their readers! My response, which you can find at this link: Redfin’s Blog is as follows:
“Quilts add stunning color and beauty to your home. Whether you are a Modern or Traditional quilter, there are many ways to present your quilted works of art. Try displaying your quilts folded and stacked on a bookshelf or hang them on a quilt ladder placed against a wall. Another option is to have your quilt framed and then mount it on a focus wall, in a foyer, or use the framed quilt as a stylish & striking headboard for a bed!” – QuiltingWithLori
I enjoy using Art and Landscape quilts placed around my home to add sparkle and interest and lift my spirits in the winter months. Hanging my art quilt creations shown above (“Snow Children” and “Ice Penguins”) brings a smile to my face! And, when I tire of the snow and ice during the long Illinois winters, I can enjoy the bright sunshine and calming ocean views from my art quilt creations shown below (“Deep Blue Sea” and “Caribbean Sunset”).
The Redfin Blog article features six different activities that can help us navigate through the blues of winter… especially if you live in an area where winter is cold and damp or filled with ice and snow! You will enjoy reading through Redfin’s article as it offers suggestions and ideas for an active and interesting winter for you and your family.
