Today I spent a few minutes getting some of my quilts photographed. One of the quilts that I especially wanted to share with you is the “Patterns of Life” Block of the Month quilt that I have designed for 2017.
This photo taken here at my front porch shows that quilt. You will find Free Tutorials on my website that teach how to sew each block in the series of my design called “Patterns of Life”
By the end of the year there will be tutorials for a quilter’s dozen of the blocks set on point. (A quilter’s dozen is thirteen! There’s a quilting story behind that saying! More on that in another post!) The center block of this quilt is the “Rose of Sharon” and surrounding that block are twelve other Bible-themed blocks. All the blocks are pieced blocks except for the “Rose of Sharon,” which is an applique block.
You can also have fun with these tutorials by using one or two of the block patterns to create beautiful scrap quilts from your fabric “stash!” We all have our own stash of fabrics that we really must use up, right? So, let’s have fun! I might join you in that challenge. Although there are two blocks that are more challenging in this quilt, the rest are very simple blocks that go together quickly and easily. I challenge each of you to try your hand at them as the tutorials get posted on my site! You can work your way through the tutorials at your own pace. They will always remain up on the site so you’ll have them to refer to later. Each tutorial has a PDF of complete instructions, as well as a PDF of rotary cutting instructions and templates. Some quilters prefer to use templates when only one of each block is used in a sampler quilt; however, others prefer to rotary cut all their fabrics. Have fun and please let me know when you’ve finished your very own “Patterns of Life” quilt! I’d love to see them, and with your permission, I’d like to post them to my site.
The “Patterns of Life” quilt is 60″ x 60″ so it makes a nice table cover, wall quilt or lap quilt. The outer setting blocks and setting corner blocks use the King’s Crown block.
The Fabric Requirements are as follows: Blocks; (2 yds dark); (2-5/8 yds Light); (2 yds Medium). For the the setting triangles, setting corners, and outer border, sashing and binding: (2 1/2 yds Dark Contrast).
