Wisconsin Lectures & Trunk Shows Fall 2019 (My Favorite 3-D’s Lecture)

by | Oct 21, 2019

Fall is a busy and beautiful time of year. It has always been my favorite season because I simply love the gorgeous Fall colors that surround us here in the Midwest as the leaves begin to change. This month, I’ve driven up to Wisconsin a couple of times to present Lectures/Trunk shows… in Lodi and in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Both trips were absolutely gorgeous drives north into Wisconsin!

Heather, from the Oconomowoc Guild forwarded a couple photos to me of my lecture on “My Favorite 3-D’s: Diamonds, Dresden’s and Drunkards Paths Templates”.  This Lecture is a popular one. My goal in “My Favorite 3-D’s is to inspire guild members to pick up those templates laying around their sewing rooms and USE them on their next wonderful quilt creation. I bring along a variety of templates and patterns for sale which they can purchase to begin that next project. Members walk away from the lecture/trunk show assuring me they’ve been inspired to start a project they’ve been putting off, or to try a new template they’ve not used before!

In the photo above, I am discussing one of the diamond templates called periwinkle or wacky web. The periwinkle runner is being shown by a volunteer Guild member. I’m explaining how the periwinkle template is used in this paper-pieced method of creating the block. It is a fast and very accurate way of producing this block. This block is great for themed fabrics, or scraps.

This photo (above) depicts one slide from my PowerPoint lecture as I discuss the variety of Dresden plate templates. My trunk show offers a variety of ideas to inspire Guild members to pick up their Dresden or Diamond or Drunkard’s Path Templates and have fun creating!

So, pictured here is a quick peek at just a couple of the quilts in “My Favorite 3-D” lecture. As you can tell from the pic of me next to the quilt rack, there are LOTS of quilts that I show in this Trunk Show to inspire Guild members!

The quilts I create are everything from Traditional to Fresh Modern. And, of course, I LOVE Scrappy; hence, there is an assortment of quilts that I make using up beautiful scraps from my stash!

And, sometimes, I use Ugly scraps from my stash!  It is amazing to see how even the ugliest fabrics used in scrappy quilts can make up into a beautiful finished product! For instance, the Jeweled Diamond quilt (photo at left) is made using very LARGE Diamond templates (templates are included in my pattern). This quilt receives many compliments, even though it was created using up some of my UGLY fabrics!  LOL!  The diamond templates were cut from a variety of large scrap fabrics from my stash. A few of these fabrics were really quite UGLY on their own, but I was determined to use them up in something! This quilt is vibrant with color and the large diamond fabric pieces call out for some great quilting motifs!

If your Guild would like to see/hear this Lecture/Trunk Show, please contact me through my website… (Click here)  I would love to visit your Guild and present this Lecture or any of my other Lectures and Workshops! (Click here for lecture/workshop info)

Happy “Fall” Quilting!  And, don’t forget…. pick up that template in your sewing room and CREATE! Lori Dickman
