So, on to Step Three of the Mystery Quilt for the Fall of 2019! For those of you who are using my Speedy Solutions Techniques for your Scrap Stash, this is a great Mystery Quilt pattern to use up lots of those 3-1/2″ squares, as well as 1.5″ squares and 6″ squares!
In Step Two, you were to have Snowballed each of your 6″ (Light or medium colored) squares with four (dark/bright) 1,5″ squares. You need a total of 32 Snowball squares for *unit 2.”
In Step One you have already made (32) 4-patch squares, using 3.5″ light and dark fabrics from your stash.
For Step Three you will simply sew two of the 4-patch units to two of the Snowballed units to create a block that is 11.5″… see photo below.
BE CAREFUL as you sew the 4-patch units to the Snowballed unit. Make sure that your “dark squares” are all going in the SAME direction!!! Note in the photo below, my “darks” are in a line from the bottom left to the top right – all headed in the same direction! You could draw an invisible line from the bottom left corner of the completed block to the top right corner and it would follow the “dark” squares from bottom to top!
You will make a total of 16 of these complete blocks using the (32) 4-patch units and the (32) Snowball units that you created in Steps One & Two.
In the next couple weeks, we will be ‘sashing’ the blocks… HOWEVER, this won’t be plain sashing. We will also snowball our sashing units! Check back in a week or two and you’ll find Step Four of the Mystery Quilt for Fall 2019 posted here on my blog!
Happy Quilting!
