Zoom – Virtual Lectures & Workshops

by | Sep 5, 2020

In 2020, the word “Zoom” has become a household term!  This is one of the new platforms onto which many businesses, schools and organizations are conducting themselves on a day to day basis.

As a Quilting Teacher, Instructor and Lecturer, I have found it necessary to jump in with both feet. I’ve found that the Zoom platform is easier to get to know and understand than I thought it would be!  After testing Zoom with groups of people, I’ve had great results. I’m quite pleased to know that my Quilt Lectures & Workshops can be conducted on a personal level with Quilt Guild members anywhere in the country, (in the world actually) without too many issues!

GlobalQuiltConnection.com is an organization that is featuring Quilting Teachers/Instructors from around the world on a weekly basis to help Quilt Guilds find ways to allow their memberships to remain engaged during the difficult time in 2020. On various Wednesday’s each month, they are conducting Zoom meetings with anyone who wants to get connected. Each of their Zoom meetings highlights 25 to 30 Quilting instructors from around the world with a 3-minute video.  They also have a corresponding PDF list of those specific speakers for each Zoom call to allow Guilds to reference and identify which instructor they would like to contact for upcoming speaking engagements.

As i listened to the Q&A after a two-hour Global Quilt Connection zoom call on Wednesday, many of the instructors emphasized how much they are enjoying the Zoom platform for a number of reasons, one of which was that each student had a seat “front and center” with a bird’s eye view of the complete presentation.  This is not usually the case when we instructors give “in-person” lectures. Many times, the location where the Guild meets doesn’t necessarily offer the best lighting or the amount of room required.  It is often difficult for Guilds to find a good location to meet on a monthly basis that doesn’t break their budgets!

On Wednesday, October 7, 2020, from 3:00 – 5:00 CST, I will be part of the group of instructors who will be presenting a 3-minute video to share with the Quilt Guild world the lectures & workshops which I offer. You can learn more about my Lectures and Workshops at this link: https://quiltingwithlori.com/lectures-workshops-information/

I encourage all Quilters to register with the https://www.globalquiltconnection.com/ so you have a chance to view Instructors from all over the world!  It is certainly amazing to see the amount and the variety of talent available to us!  Happy Quilting! Lori Dickman
