Art Quilt in the Great Wisconsin Quilt Show – Botanical Exhibit

by | Aug 3, 2020

It was exciting to hear from Dana at the Great Wisconsin Quilt Show (Madison, WI) that my Art Quilt, “Bouquet of Love for Mom” was accepted into the 2020 Botanical Quilt Challenge for The Great Wisconsin Quilt Show Virtual Experience – a joint venture of PBS Wisconsin and Nancy Zieman Productions, LLC.

My art quilt will be part of the traveling exhibit for two years ,,, I’ll get it back by September 30, 2022

This was an art quilt that I designed in a software app on my iPad called, QuiltFusion. It’s a great app. I love using it and have designed dozens of art quilts in this app. I’m slowly getting them all created … lots of fun!

Below are pics of a few closeups of the Quilt… The technique used is applique using Steam-A-Seam 2.  I used matching or complimentary Embroidery thread to applique the various pieces to the background. You’ll notice some of the flowers and the butterflies were appliqued  ‘peeking’ out of the ‘window’ onto the border of the quilt. I used a paisley free motion quilting stitch (using my longarm) for the background and a free motion feather stitch around the outer blue border.

Creating Art Quilts is one of my all-time favorites when it comes to quilting. This quilt is in honor of my mom, who has always loved growing flower gardens.

Don’t forget to go out to the Quilt Show website [click here] to register for the September 10-12, 2020 Virtual Quilt Show!

Happy Quilting!
