The 2020 Virtual Great Wisconsin Quilt Show is here… starts today and runs through Saturday, September 12, 2020! There are so many wonderful things out there to see on the website… You simply must take a look around! You can go shopping at all the Quilt vendors (and who doesn’t like to shop? We all need more fabric and thread, right?) There are Virtual classes you can attend and, of course, the Virtual Quilt show itself with hundreds of quilts for you to see! I’ve already taken a look around this morning, but there is so much more to see that I know I’ll be spending the next couple of days enjoying he entire Show! What is exciting about this show is that we can all watch it from the comfort of our homes… we can even wear our pajama’s while attending class or shopping, and no one will know the difference!!! Again, this year, I was excited to learn that a quilt of mine was accepted into the Show. My quilt entitled, Bouquet of Love for Mom, was accepted into the Botanical Challenge Exhibit. My quilt will be traveling with the Botanical Exhibit over the next 2 years… it will come back to me in September of 2022. I made this quilt in honor of my mother… now in memory of my mother, as she passed away one month ago today.
The quilt is an art quilt which I designed on an iPad app called QuiltFusion. It is raw-edge applique (flowers, leaves, butterflies & dragonflies) using batiks and vibrant-colored fabrics. I quilted free-motion feathers, paisleys and outline quilting using my long-arm quilt machine. I am excited that the quilt gets to travel for the next couple years, but I’m also looking forward to getting it back as it now holds even more sweet memories of my mother!
With each of the Quilt Show categories on the website, close-ups are available which offer information about the quilt and quilter. And, many of the quilts have a quick little video clip that you can watch. Here is a link to watch the clip for my Quilt…
While taking a few minutes during lunchtime to look through the quilt contest categories, I just had to share some of the beautiful photos that I “snagged” … I tried to incorporate the Category Number (top left of each photo posted below…), as well as the Quilt number within the Description Box for each quilt so you could easily locate each quilt out on the Great Wisconsin Quilt Show website! Many of the quilts throughout the show include Video clips from the quilter… check them out!
And you must check out the Cherrywood hand-dyed Fabrics Bob Ross Challenge! I wish I would have known about this Challenge early in 2019, because I absolutely would have entered it! I have always enjoyed watching Bob Ross and adore the Cherrywood fabrics immensely! There are 100 quilts in the Challenge; each quilt is 20″x 20″ and uses only 8 different Cherrywood hand-dyed fabric colors! Happy Quilting & Enjoy the Great WI Quilt Show!
