So excited to learn that my quilt, “O’wl Sit Under the Light of the Oak Leaf Moon” is a finalist in the 2019 National Quilt Museum Quilt Block contest!! I received this letter from the Curator of the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky in December.
My quilt will hang in the National Quilt Museum from April through June and it will also be displayed at the AQS Spring 2019 Quilt Show in Paducah! How exciting it will be to see my quilt hanging there at the Show! My husband, Scott, suggested we make a trip through Paducah on our way to Nashville during the April Quilt Show! It will be fun trip!
I’ve included the text of the letter here in the blog here as i don’t think the photo of the letter will be legible in the blog!

Each year since 1994, The NQM has held an International Quilt contest to… “challenge quilt-makers to create an innovative quilt based on a specific traditional pattern. Winners of the contest traditionally include quilts from many different U.S. states and several other countries. Quilts are selected for their excellence in design and techniques, their innovation, and their contributions to an exhibit showing the wide range of designs and styles the selected traditional pattern can inspire.”
My quilt is a crazy, whimsical interpretation of the 2019 Contest Block with an Owl sitting under the light of the Oak Leaf Moon Block! In the photo below, do you see all the Oak Leaf Reel parts & pieces blowing in the wind around the tree? The Oak Leaf pieces are also used within the Owl for parts of his body, and they are used in the outer scalloped border, etc.… It was really fun designing this quilt! I felt like a little kid creating a coloring project! It was so much fun!” It was a thrill to learn that my quilt made it as a finalist!
The AQS Show in Paducah is pretty much the ‘Meca” of Quilt Shows! Other than Houston, of course! So many women and so many quilts! Great fun and tons of inspiration! If you have never been to Paducah during the Spring Show, you must grab a couple Quilting Buddies and plan your next Quilt Get-away!
Hope to see you there!
Happy Sewing, Lori Dickman
