With all the snow we’ve gotten in Rockford this past week, my new Snow Village quilt ‘feels’ right at home! I designed this pattern in my EQ7 software and created the quilt using a stash of blue fabrics, a pale yellow scrap for the light in all the windows, and white felt for the snowflakes. I embellished the snow flakes with crystals. It’s hard to see them sparkle in the photo, but if you were standing in the foyer here in my home, you’d be able to see those sparkling snowflakes!
Each block is a paper-pieced 12″ finished block. There are eight different buildings (including a school, a hotel, etc.), plus two pine trees. Paper-piecing is a very accurate method of piecing blocks; however, it is also a very time-consuming method! This quilt took over 47 hours to complete…from cutting to embellishment!
Here are a few close-ups of the paper-pieced blocks…
After the quilt was pieced, quilted and bound, I then got out the crystal glue iron and began ironing the crystals on the snowflakes. That took an entire evening!
I hope this Wintry Christmas season brings you many joys and blessings! Happy Quilting! Lori Dickman
