The Sinnissippi Quilt Guild https://sinnissippiquilters.org has a fun Challenge for the May 2019 Quilt Show here in Rockford. There are many fabric colors of the rainbow that are included in this Challenge. Those of us who elected to participate were to create a quilt that is 6″ x 42″ using the “Fabric Swatch of Color” which was in the envelope we selected!
I had been searching high and low for just the right shade of “purple” for my little quilt! In my fabric stash I located 27 different shades of purple! And, STILL couldn’t find a fabric that matched my swatch! So, to the stores (plural!!!) I went. After purchasing a number of different purple fabrics at numerous Quilt Shops which seemed to be the best match to my swatch, I finally did find just the right one at Sunshine Stitches https://www.sunshinestitchesinc.com/ in Belvidere. Yeah! I have actually made “two” challenge ‘quiltlets’ in my attempt to get it just right!
In the photo above, you can see the top of my little quilt which I’ve entitled, “Perky Purple Pansies!” Below are a few more photos … you can also see the numerous fabrics that I have in my stash that are a shade of purple!!!
The photo on the left here shows the first little challenge quilt that I started (see it at the bottom of the photo). However, it was not quite the right shade of purple. Since it is not finished, I will use it and this pattern that I created (in EQ7 software) and finish a new quilt … probably will be a wall quilt. We’ll see what happens with that one!
The Perky Purple Pansies are actually felt appliques. I searched and searched, but could not locate Wool in just the exact color of purple that I needed. However, while I was in the craft area of Jo-Ann’s looking for something for my granddaughter, I ran across a Felt square in just the right shade! So, that is what I used for the Pansies!
My label on the back includes the Purple fabric swatch which most of the quilt was required to match. . This next week is our Guild Meeting/ Christmas party, so I will be turning in my little Challenge quilt for the Show.
