The last few weeks I have been busy preparing for my Lectures at the Sinnissippi Quilt Guild here in Rockford, IL. This lecture, “Speedy Solutions to Cutting & Organizing your Scrap Stash” will be presented twice on Thursday, June 6. (Check out the Guild website link here.) Hope to see many of you join us there tomorrow… The location of the meeting is: Bethesda Covenant Church; 2101 E State St,; Rockford IL.
I’ve just completed the corresponding book for this lecture which I will have for sale, along with numerous patterns and other booklets. My next project to be completed is the Mini-album of “Speedy Scrap Quilts” patterns which I’ve designed. Designing patterns is exciting; writing the patterns certainly takes time…I get so impatient with that part of the process, but it will be worth it when finished!
My summer and fall calendar are proving to be quite busy also with my Scraps of Life Retreat that I’m hosting in Lake Geneva, WI during the last 4-day weekend of July; a Lecture and Workshop in Montezuma, Iowa at Piecemakers Quilt Guild in August; two lectures in Wisconsin in October (Lodi Valley Guild and Oconomowoc Guild), and then in November at McHenry, IL (Country Quilters Guild).
My Speedy Solutions Lecture will include a PPT presentation which presents step-by-step ideas on how to cut, organize and store all the scraps we quilters accumulate after finishing up quilts we create! Over the years I have had tubs and tubs of leftover pieces of scraps from various sewing and quilting projects. This “Speedy Solutions” method is an accumulation of techniques that I have adopted over the years to help get those scraps under control and USABLE! The Magic begins to happen when you see the messy fabric turn into perfectly cut and organized piles of scraps stored by size and value. Your mind starts picking out patterns from what it sees and the creative juices begin to flow even before you get a chance to gather the squares in various values for your project and take them over to the machine to begin sewing! All Cut and Ready to Sew!!!
The Speedy Solutions Trunk Show will include around 30 quilts which will showcase the “Speedy Solutions” technique. The Sinnissippi Guild also offers a Workshop which I will be conducting on Friday, June 7. We will make the Scrappy Periwinkle Basket using my pattern and the Periwinkle template and foundation paper. You can also check out info on that workshop here.
Here are a few of the quilts that will be in my Trunk Show… Hope to see you all tomorrow or Friday!
