This is such an unusual time for our country. We must understand that it is a great opportunity for each of us to spend quality time with family during meals, working on school work, crafts or home projects and, especially, in prayer.
In many cases, we cannot be with our extended family, but social media helps to fill in the gap there! It was fun participating in a Live Facebook stream with my Granddaughter yesterday.
We can also still take secluded walks with our “little” family members (i.e. dogs!). Getting out of the house helps with the cabin fever for those who aren’t used to staying in the house for very long!
There are passages throughout the Bible that teach us the importance of putting our faith in the Lord and not in the world. Chapter 25 of the Book of Psalms really jumped out at me the other day in devotions… especially Psalms 25:4-5; “Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. [5] Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.” When you have a moment, I encourage you to grab your Bible and read the entire chapter… it is a short chapter and it’ll be a blessing to you!
During these difficult times, thousands of seamstresses around the country have taken on the challenge of sewing masks for our medical profession and nursing homes, etc… There are some wonderful links that I’ve received that I’ll share here for you. Facial Masks do not require much fabric and can be made up very quickly. Some patterns use elastic (around the ears) and some use ties which tie in the back…
Here is a pattern that does not use elastic. It comes from Quilt Addicts Anonymous. https://www.quiltaddictsanonymous.com/2020/03/how-to-make-a-mask-without-elastic/
Here is a pattern that Jenny Doan (Missouri Star Quilt Company) has out on youtube.com which uses elastic: https://www.google.com/search?q=jenny+doan+face+mask&oq=jenny+doan+face&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0l2.7149j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Here is a link to a database of organizations who are in need of face masks. https://www.deaconess.com/How-to-make-a-Face-Mask/Mask-Donations?__s=uxnahqtgznpgcegsetnm
During the time you have at home, make sure you put down your phones and iPads and take some time to spend with family members. Look them in the face and have conversations…Laugh…Love and Live out loud! (not into a gadget!!)
We all have those “honey-do” lists… let’s check off all those to-do projects together as a family. We might be amazed what can be accomplished and we might find that we really missed spending that one-on-one time together with our loved ones!
Have a blessed few weeks in your homes!
