Over the last couple of weeks, I have been finishing up a few quilts. Two of them are Fall patterns that I have designed. The patterns will be posted on my site as soon as they are ready!! Typically, I create the quilt, photograph it, and then I go back & prepare the pattern instructions by exploding the quilt elements to write out the corresponding instructions. So, be patient… the new patterns will be posted to my online Store soon!
The first quilt that I completed is my Pumpkin Harvest table runner, which includes 3 appliques blocks, plus a pieced diamond border. I typically prefer to use a Glue Baste method of applique instead of fused web, which gives a soft hand to the quilt. I will get a “How To” Blog posted on my site which shows my preferred Glue Baste method. Here are a few photos during the quilting process and of the finished runner…
Below are pics of another Fall quilt I just finished…this one is a wall hanging. I actually have two of these wall quilts pieced (One you see below and the other is a bright Summer Zinnia wall quilt…photos of that one to come soon!). The photos below are of the “Fall Zinnia” wall quilt which include photos of the quilting process, as well as of the finished quilt.
I quilt all my projects on my long arm… which is a Tin Lizzy. I do NOT have a computerized long arm…my quilting is all hand-guided, free motion or ruler work. I often wish I had a computerized long arm; just a dream for now! LOL!
On the Fall Zinnia wall quilt (above), I did use my Faux Flange Binding technique. You can find the “How To” on this technique on my blog… Click Here
I also FINALLY quilted another project which I’ve had pieced for months! It uses my Fruity Melons pattern (Click here for that pattern). The fabric I used for this Fruity Melons pattern is in grays/whites/yellows. (The gray fabric color appears to be periwinkle in the photos, but if you click on a close-up photo, you’ll see that it is gray!) The theme on the fabric is white & yellow daisies with bumblebees! Just a really fun fabric that I purchased from my dear friend’s (Jeanette Bussard) High Sewciety Quilt Boutique. Click HERE for a link to her wonderful online site. You will find some great treasures while perusing her site! She is in South Carolina and that State is in the midst of a great Shop Hop right now! Check it out on her site!
Below are the photos of that Fruity Melon’s quilt in White & yellow Daisies & Bumblebees! You will see that I also used the Faux Flange technique for the binding on this quilt. I used a yellow/white check fabric for the flange and the gray/yellow daisy fabric for the binding.
Enjoy! Lori Dickman
